When creating a template, you’ll choose one of the following types:

Connection Note Template

Connection note templates are sent together with connection requests during a campaign.

  • Maximum length: 250 characters

  • Shorter messages are recommended, especially when using variables (such as first or last name)

  • If the final message exceeds LinkedIn’s limit, it will not be sent

Follow-Up Message Template

Follow-up message templates are used in message sequences after a connection is established.

  • Sent as LinkedIn direct messages

  • Maximum length: 1,900 characters

InMail Template

InMail templates are used to contact users outside of your network who have open profiles.

  • Sent independently of connection requests

  • Require a subject

  • Maximum length: 1,900 characters

  • Used as part of InMail optimization

InMails allow outreach without consuming connection requests.

Managing Templates

From the Templates page, you can:

  • Edit existing templates

  • Delete templates

Notes:

  • Templates can only be deleted from the Templates page

  • Templates can be edited both from the Templates page and during campaign setup

When creating a template, use a clear and descriptive name for internal tracking.

Using Smart Variables

Templates support smart variables, which automatically pull data from a lead’s LinkedIn profile.

Examples include:

  • First name

  • Last name

  • Company name

These placeholders help personalize messages at scale.

Advanced Template Enhancements

During campaign setup, templates can be further enhanced with:

  • Auto-Translate
Automatically translates messages based on the recipient’s LinkedIn language

  • AI-powered variables
Adds additional personalization using public profile data

These features help improve relevance and response rates while keeping templates reusable.

Recap

Templates are the foundation of every campaign.

They allow you to:

  • Reuse outreach messages

  • Maintain consistency across campaigns

  • Personalize communication at scale

  • Manage all messaging in one centralized location
